Music Appreciation Week at Central School

We had an incredible week at Central School, hosting local musicians from across Southern Alberta.

Students enjoyed the music of the WR Myers stage band, Mary Lambert, and the lead singer of local

band, Biloxi Parish. Our afternoon buskers were a hit - we had close encounters with musicians

playing the cello, piano, accordion, and the bagpipes.

Our students enjoyed the singing of our Grade 2/3 Barnes class and a

performance on our new ukuleles by 4/5 Harding students. These grade 4/5 students also took

opportunities throughout the week to teach all of our classes a Travelling Stick Song, a traditional

indigenous song involving sticks, beats, and singing. Our entire school joined one large circle and

participated in this song as our culminating experience. Mrs. Harding rounded this experience out by

sharing her personal experiences using natural, meaningful earth materials to build indigenous drums.
